About

Youzhou Yang is pioneering the frontier of magnetic soft robotics for minimally invasive medicine and biofabrication. His landmark work on "Ferromagnetic soft catheter robots for minimally invasive bioprinting" (223 citations) introduced a paradigm-shifting approach to in vivo tissue engineering, enabling direct fabrication of artificial tissues on internal target sites. Yang further advanced interventional medicine with "Magnetic soft microfiberbots for robotic embolization" (165 citations), developing microrobots capable of precisely occluding blood vessels to treat cerebral aneurysms and brain tumors. His contributions extend to mechanically-guided 3D assembly for architected flexible electronics (139 citations), demonstrating expertise in creating complex 3D structures for biomedical devices. Yang has also designed a magnetic soft robotic bladder to assist urination in underactive bladder conditions (72 citations), addressing a critical unmet clinical need. His recent work on transforming machines for continuous 3D shape morphing and locking (2025) and structured locomotive magnetic soft robots showcases his ongoing innovation in adaptive, multifunctional soft systems. With over 600 citations across his core publications, Yang is establishing himself as a leading voice in soft robotics, magnetic actuation, and their translation into life-changing medical technologies.
