Yoshimasa Goto is a pioneering figure in autonomous mobile robotics, best known for his foundational work in robot road-following and outdoor navigation. His research centers on system architecture, visual perception, and real-time control for autonomous land vehicles. Goto’s most influential contribution is his early work on visual road-following, where he developed methods for image rectification, camera calibration, oriented edge tracking, and color-based road-region segmentation—techniques that enabled robots to perceive and navigate unstructured outdoor environments.
