About

Yawen Sun is a pioneering researcher at the intersection of soft materials and bioelectronics, best known for introducing liquid metal-enabled plant injectable electronics. In a landmark 2023 study, Sun and colleagues demonstrated a novel method to inject conductive liquid metal into plant vascular systems, creating flexible, biocompatible circuits that can monitor physiological signals in living plants. This work, which has already garnered 30 citations, opens new frontiers for plant wearables, environmental sensing, and cyborg agriculture. Sun’s major contribution lies in merging liquid metal’s unique fluidic and electrical properties with biological tissues, enabling seamless, minimally invasive interfaces that were previously impossible with rigid electronics. Beyond plants, Sun’s research holds promise for soft robotics, implantable medical devices, and biohybrid systems. By reimagining how electronics can be integrated into living organisms, Yawen Sun is shaping a future where technology and biology coexist more intimately, offering transformative tools for both fundamental plant science and sustainable agriculture.
