About

Xueyang Wang is a rising interdisciplinary researcher whose work bridges artificial intelligence and soft robotics. Her primary research areas include pedestrian behavior anticipation, human-robot interaction, and self-healing materials for soft actuators. In her 2023 paper, "The Group Interaction Field for Learning and Explaining Pedestrian Anticipation" (10 citations), Wang introduced a novel framework that models how pedestrians anticipate each other’s movements in dense crowds—a critical capability for autonomous systems like service robots and self-driving cars. This work addresses a fundamental gap in existing prediction models, offering both improved accuracy and interpretability. More recently, in 2025, Wang published "Ultrasoft and fast self-healing poly(ionic liquid) electrode for dielectric elastomer actuators" (8 citations), where she developed a highly elastic, self-healing ionogel electrode that overcomes the mechanical limitations of conventional materials. This innovation enables dielectric elastomer actuators to achieve greater durability and performance in soft robotics applications, such as adaptive grippers. With her work spanning from cognitive modeling to materials engineering, Wang is making impactful contributions that advance both the understanding of human behavior in crowds and the development of resilient, lifelike robotic systems.
