About
Xin‐Jian Xu is a versatile researcher whose work spans surgical epidemiology and underwater robotics. In the clinical domain, Xu led a landmark national cross-sectional study on surgical site infections (SSI) following colorectal surgery in China, published in 2020. This work, which has garnered 35 citations, established the first nationwide large-scale database on SSI incidence and risk factors in the country, providing critical evidence to reduce morbidity, costs, and mortality in colorectal procedures. Earlier, Xu made notable contributions to marine robotics with a 2002 paper on a real-time vision-based stationkeeping system for underwater vehicles. This work, cited 18 times, introduced an algorithm that computes camera motion from ocean floor images to enable automatic ROV/AUV positioning—a key advance for autonomous underwater operations.
