About
Dr. Jianan Ren is a leading surgical researcher whose work bridges cutting-edge biomedical innovation and rigorous clinical epidemiology. His research focuses on two pivotal areas: the emerging field of four-dimensional (4D) printing for biomedical applications, and the prevention of surgical site infections (SSI) in gastrointestinal and abdominal surgery. In his highly cited 2021 review on 4D printing (49 citations), Dr. Ren provided a forward-looking perspective on how smart, shape-shifting materials can revolutionize surgery and regenerative medicine. His most impactful contributions, however, lie in large-scale infection control. He led a landmark multicenter prospective study (2019, 48 citations) and a national cross-sectional study on colorectal surgery (2020, 35 citations), which together established the first nationwide SSI database in China. By identifying key risk factors and clinical phenotypes for SSI after abdominal surgery (2023, 22 citations), his work has directly informed perioperative protocols, including the importance of nutritional status and minimally invasive techniques. Dr. Ren’s ability to combine futuristic materials science with practical, data-driven infection surveillance makes his research essential for improving surgical outcomes on a national scale.
