About

Weidong Su’s research advances autonomous navigation and control for complex robotic and vehicular systems. His most cited work, “The improvement of the artificial potential field robot path planning based on 3-D space” (2012, 11 citations), addresses a critical limitation in robot motion planning: enabling reliable obstacle avoidance even when obstacles are extremely close to the target point. By refining the artificial potential field method for three-dimensional environments, Su’s approach produces more realistic, collision-free trajectories—a fundamental contribution to field robotics and autonomous navigation. In complementary work, “Controller design of a truck and multiple trailer system” (2010, 4 citations), Su tackles the challenging problem of steering multi-articulated vehicles with limited control degrees of freedom. This research has practical implications for logistics and transportation, where increasing load capacity through multiple trailers is desirable but control remains difficult. Together, these studies demonstrate Su’s focus on bridging theoretical control methods with real-world constraints, from single robots in 3D space to complex multi-body systems. His work continues to inform researchers developing more robust and practical path planning and control algorithms.
