V. M. Larionov is a leading astrophysicist specializing in the multiwavelength study of blazars—active galactic nuclei with powerful relativistic jets. Their research focuses on understanding the extreme variability, emission mechanisms, and physical processes in these cosmic accelerators. Larionov has made major contributions by coordinating and analyzing extensive multifrequency campaigns, most notably during the record-breaking 2009 December gamma-ray flare of 3C 454.3, when the blazar became the brightest gamma-ray source in the sky.
