Takashi Kida is a pioneering figure in the field of autonomous space robotics and nonlinear adaptive control, with a career dedicated to advancing the safety and autonomy of orbital servicing missions. His research centers on stabilizing control systems for spacecraft during critical phases such as rendezvous, approach, and capture—operations essential for future in-space refueling, repair, and debris removal. Kida’s major contributions include the development of nonlinear adaptive PID state feedback controllers that ensure six-degrees-of-freedom tracking stability, even when a chaser spacecraft physically interacts with an uncooperative target.
