About
Sacha Noimark is a pioneering researcher at the intersection of biomedical engineering and optics, whose work is transforming the safety and precision of minimally invasive fetal surgery. Her key research areas include all-optical ultrasound sensing, haptic feedback systems, and soft magnetic elastomer actuators for biomedical applications. Noimark’s major contribution is the development of a haptic guidance system that uses all-optical ultrasound distance sensing to provide real-time tactile feedback to surgeons during delicate fetal procedures—a breakthrough designed to reduce risks in early-gestation interventions for congenital disorders. This work, published in 2018, has garnered 17 citations and represents a critical step toward safer intrauterine surgery. More recently, she has advanced the characterization of low-field actuating magnetic elastomer membranes using fibre-optic interferometry (2023, 11 citations), enabling wireless actuation for smart robotic devices in biomedical settings. Noimark’s innovative fusion of optics, ultrasound, and soft robotics positions her as a rising leader in developing next-generation tools for fetal therapy and beyond.
