About

S. Becerril is a leading astronomical instrumentation engineer whose work has been pivotal in enabling the next generation of massive spectroscopic surveys. Their primary research focuses on developing high-precision robotic fiber positioners and multi-object spectrographs for large ground-based telescopes. Becerril’s most significant contribution is the design and implementation of the 5,020 robotic fiber positioners for the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI), a system that autonomously retargets optical fibers every 10–20 minutes with micron-level precision.
