About
Ryan Wistort is a roboticist whose work bridges the gap between novel sensing modalities and human-robot interaction. His key research areas include electric field sensing for robotic manipulation, autonomous infrastructure monitoring, and socially expressive educational robots. Wistort’s major contribution is pioneering the use of electric field sensors to implement “pretouch” for grasping—a perceptual channel inspired by weakly electric fish that allows robots to sense objects before physical contact.
