Regina Gandour-Edwards is a leading pathologist whose work is revolutionizing intraoperative cancer detection, particularly in head and neck oncology. Her research centers on integrating advanced optical imaging techniques—specifically fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIm) and time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy—with robotic surgical platforms to provide real-time, label-free tissue assessment during cancer removal. Her major contributions include demonstrating that FLIm can accurately distinguish tumor from healthy tissue during transoral robotic surgery, addressing the critical challenge of margin assessment when tactile feedback is absent.
