About

Qinshu Chen’s research lies at the intersection of robotics, human-machine interaction, and flexible electronics, with a focus on enhancing safety and perception in intelligent manufacturing. A key contribution is the development of a 6-DoF grasp estimation method that fuses RGB-D data using external attention mechanisms, enabling robots to more accurately and safely manipulate objects in dynamic environments—work that has already garnered early citations for its innovative approach. Chen also pioneered the design of an electronic skin based on flexible capacitors, a proximity-sensing technology that allows robots to perceive their surroundings and avoid collisions during human-robot collaboration. This work directly addresses the critical need for safe interaction in smart factories, where machines must seamlessly and safely work alongside people. With both papers accumulating citations in their respective fields, Chen’s research is shaping the future of responsive, human-aware robotics. By combining advanced perception algorithms with soft, tactile sensing, Qinshu Chen is helping to build a world where robots are not just tools, but intuitive partners.
