Panayotis Kokkalis is a leading figure in atmospheric aerosol research, specializing in the development and application of advanced remote sensing techniques. His primary contributions lie in the synergistic use of lidar and radiometric observations to characterize aerosol vertical profiles. Kokkalis is the principal architect of the LIdar-Radiometer Inversion Code (LIRIC), a groundbreaking algorithm that fuses data from lidar and sun photometers to retrieve the vertical distribution of aerosol types.
