About

Ouajdi Felfoul is a pioneering researcher at the intersection of medical robotics, nanotechnology, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), whose work has fundamentally advanced the possibility of navigating miniaturized devices through the human body. His most celebrated contributions center on harnessing MRI systems as both propulsion and control platforms for untethered micro- and nanorobots operating within the vasculature. His landmark 2009 paper on flagellated magnetotactic bacteria as steerable propulsion systems for medical nanorobots has garnered over 450 citations, establishing a new paradigm for biohybrid robotic design. Equally influential is his 2007 demonstration of real-time in vivo navigation of a ferromagnetic bead through a living animal's carotid artery using a clinical MRI platform, cited over 355 times, which proved the translational viability of MRI-guided robotic interventions.
