Nathan Cowieson is a leading figure in synchrotron instrumentation and structural biology, whose work has revolutionized how researchers access high-flux X-ray beams for crystallography and small-angle scattering. As a key architect of the MX2 beamline at the Australian Synchrotron, he delivered a high-performance undulator microfocus facility that serves both chemical and macromolecular crystallography communities—a contribution cited over 540 times.
