About

Mingyuan Sun is a rising innovator in flexible electronics and soft matter engineering, whose work bridges piezotronics, organic field-effect transistors (OFETs), and liquid metal manipulation. Sun’s most impactful contribution is the development of a high-performance, waterproof-breathable fully flexible tactile sensor, which integrates piezotronics with OFETs to achieve exceptional sensitivity and durability—a breakthrough cited over 60 times for its potential in wearable health monitoring and human-machine interfaces. In parallel, Sun has pioneered the 3D actuation of foam-core liquid metal droplets, a novel method that overcomes the limitations of traditional 2D control. By precisely manipulating droplets in three dimensions, this work opens new avenues for reconfigurable electronics, soft robotics, and microelectromechanical systems. Sun’s research demonstrates a rare ability to combine fundamental materials science with practical device engineering, yielding solutions that are both robust and versatile. With a growing citation footprint and a focus on scalable, high-performance flexible systems, Mingyuan Sun is establishing a reputation as a key contributor to the next generation of smart, adaptive electronic skins and soft actuators.
