Dr. Mike Yao is a leading head and neck surgical oncologist whose research focuses on de-escalating treatment for human papillomavirus (HPV)-related oropharyngeal cancer. His landmark Sinai Robotic Surgery (SIRS) Trial (2021, 62 citations) demonstrated that upfront transoral robotic surgery (TORS) with reduced-dose adjuvant therapy can maintain excellent survival while minimizing toxicity—a paradigm shift in managing this disease.
