About
Masayori Inouye is a pioneering molecular biologist whose research has fundamentally shaped our understanding of gene regulation, protein secretion, and stress responses in bacteria. He is best known for his groundbreaking work on the mechanism of protein secretion across the bacterial membrane, particularly through the discovery and characterization of the Sec and Tat pathways. Inouye also made seminal contributions to the study of cold-shock proteins and the regulation of gene expression by antisense RNA. His work on the "Robotic Cloning and Protein Production Platform of the Northeast Structural Genomics Consortium" (2005, 130 citations) exemplifies his commitment to high-throughput structural biology, enabling large-scale protein production for functional and structural studies. With over 30,000 citations and an h-index exceeding 80, Inouye’s impact is immense. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and has received numerous awards, including the American Society for Microbiology’s Award for Basic Research. His discoveries continue to inspire new approaches in synthetic biology, antibiotic development, and microbial biotechnology.
