About
Marita Canina is a visionary researcher at the intersection of design, robotics, and digital transformation, whose work spans from outer space to human augmentation. Her most influential contribution is the revolutionary Bio-Suit System (2007, 21 citations), a groundbreaking "second skin" concept for astronaut extravehicular activity that reimagines human space exploration through enhanced locomotion and performance. In biorobotics, she pioneered innovative prosthetic design, developing a novel biorobotic knee prosthesis (2001, 8 citations) and semi-passive electronic-controlled above-knee prosthetics (2004, 5 citations), with her first prototype presented at the European Biomechanics Conference in 1984.
