About
Manfredo Atzori is a pioneering researcher at the intersection of rehabilitation robotics, biomedical signal processing, and machine learning, whose work has fundamentally advanced the development of naturally controlled prosthetic hands. He is best known as a principal architect of the Ninapro database, a landmark publicly available resource of surface electromyography (sEMG) data that has become an essential benchmark for the global prosthetics research community, accumulating over 930 citations since its 2014 release. His groundbreaking 2016 study applying deep convolutional neural networks to sEMG classification (662 citations) demonstrated that advanced machine learning could significantly improve movement recognition for prosthetic control, setting a new standard for the field.
