About
M. Tashiro is a prominent figure in gamma-ray burst (GRB) astrophysics, specializing in the early-time optical emission and multi-wavelength afterglow modeling of these explosive cosmic events. Their major contributions center on bridging the critical gap between prompt gamma-ray emission and the subsequent afterglow phase, particularly through the development and operation of the WIDGET robotic telescope system. This wide-field instrument was designed to detect optical flashes coincident with or even preceding GRB triggers from the HETE-2 satellite, pioneering efforts to capture the elusive prompt optical component.
