About
Kostya S. Novoselov is a pioneering figure in materials science, best known for his foundational work on graphene and two-dimensional (2D) materials. His research spans the design of bio-inspired, stimuli-responsive membranes, hydrogels, and aerogels, with a focus on sustainable and smart architectures. Novoselov’s major contributions include developing graphene oxide (GO)-based films and sandwiched membranes that mimic biological functions, such as neuromorphic ion transport and actuation. His work on ultra-tough GO/DNA hydrogels and liquid crystal-encapsulated 2D membranes has advanced soft robotics, wearable electronics, and green building materials. With over 23 citations on his 2023 study of anisotropic GO films and 14 citations each for his neuromorphic membranes and hydrogels, his impact is rapidly growing. Notably, he has pioneered the use of collaborative robots (Cobots) for autonomous membrane synthesis, and his recent exploration of nature-inspired living materials promises breakthroughs in health and energy. Novoselov’s research bridges fundamental physics and applied engineering, offering transformative solutions for adaptive, self-healing, and energy-efficient technologies.
