About
Khuong Luu is a rising leader in the field of stimuli-responsive soft materials, with a primary focus on liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs). His research centers on engineering advanced LCEs that respond to both light and mechanical forces, pushing the boundaries of programmable actuators and smart materials. Luu’s major contributions include the development of a highly mechano-actuated, light-responsive main-chain LCE using a novel two-stage thiol–acrylate Michael addition–photopolymerization (TAMAP) method, incorporating a custom azobenzene-containing mesogenic mixture. This work, published in 2021, has already garnered 44 citations, underscoring its significance in the field. More recently, Luu introduced shape-persistent LCEs with cis-stable crosslinkers containing ortho-methyl-substituted azobenzene, enabling unprecedented control over shape retention and actuation.
