About

Kento Yoshida is a robotics researcher specializing in pipeline inspection systems, autonomous robot navigation, and innovative locomotion mechanisms. His work addresses one of infrastructure maintenance's most pressing challenges: developing efficient, intelligent robotic systems capable of inspecting gas pipelines across complex, extended networks where human access is limited or hazardous. Yoshida's most significant contributions center on coordinated multi-robot chain systems for gas pipeline inspection. His highly cited 2019 paper (17 citations) pioneered the integration of visible light relay communication with illuminance assessment, substantially extending the operational range of in-pipe inspection robots. Complementing this, his research into fuzzy logic controller-based navigation algorithms enabled greater robot autonomy, reducing dependence on manual operation. His exploration of RSSI-based communication and localization methods further addressed the persistent challenge of signal attenuation within steel pipelines. More recently, Yoshida has pushed boundaries with novel locomotion concepts, proposing a ducted-fan-powered pipeline robot (2024) designed for faster traversal of pipeline networks, and a uniaxial wave locomotion mechanism (2023) driven by a single actuator — demonstrating a consistent drive toward mechanical innovation. With a cumulative citation count exceeding 60 across his key works, Yoshida's research offers meaningful contributions to safer, more cost-effective infrastructure maintenance robotics.
