Katherine D. Mullens is a pioneering roboticist whose work has fundamentally advanced the mobility and collaborative potential of unmanned systems. Her primary research areas center on mobile robotics, human-robot interaction, and the integration of unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) with aerial platforms. Mullens’s most significant contribution is the development of the Segway Robotic Mobility Platform (RMP), detailed in her highly cited 2004 paper (221 citations). This work transformed the Segway Human Transporter into a rugged, agile, and cost-effective robotic base, offering a zero turning radius and small footprint that became a standard platform for robotics research worldwide.
