K.N. Krishnanand is a pioneering figure in swarm intelligence and collective robotics, best known for developing the Glowworm Swarm Optimization (GSO) algorithm. His research centers on bio-inspired computation, multimodal function optimization, and multi-robot coordination for source localization. Krishnanand’s seminal 2005 paper, “Detection of multiple source locations using a glowworm metaphor with applications to collective robotics” (343 citations), introduced a novel algorithm that enables swarms of simple robots to simultaneously locate and converge on multiple signal sources, such as radiation leaks or chemical spills.
