About
K. Yanagisawa is an observational astronomer whose work centers on the development of cutting-edge, robotic telescope systems for time-domain astrophysics. His primary research focus is the rapid detection and multi-color photometric follow-up of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) and other "monstrous explosions" in the universe. Yanagisawa’s most significant contribution is the design, construction, and deployment of the MITSuME (Multicolor Imaging Telescopes for Survey and Monstrous Explosions) project. This system, which comprises two 50-cm optical telescopes at Akeno and Okayama Astrophysical Observatory, is uniquely equipped with three CCD cameras for simultaneous g'RcIc photometry. This capability allows for the instantaneous capture of a transient’s color, which is crucial for determining its redshift and physical nature. His work on MITSuME has been documented in several key papers, with the foundational 2007 paper accumulating over 20 citations, demonstrating its importance to the field. By enabling rapid, multi-band observations of fleeting cosmic events, Yanagisawa has provided the astronomical community with a powerful tool for probing the most energetic phenomena in the cosmos.
