About
K. Mannheim is a leading figure in very-high-energy (VHE) gamma-ray astrophysics, with a career dedicated to understanding the most extreme phenomena in the universe—particularly blazars and their relativistic jets. His major contributions center on the long-term, unbiased monitoring of bright blazars at TeV energies, a field he helped pioneer. Mannheim was instrumental in the conception and realization of the First G-APD Cherenkov Telescope (FACT), the first instrument to use silicon photomultipliers (SiPM/G-APD) for ground-based gamma-ray astronomy. This technological breakthrough enabled robotic, remote operation and a maximized duty cycle, allowing for unprecedented, continuous data collection over many years.
