About

Johan Ingvast is a robotics researcher whose work bridges the critical gap between quadruped locomotion and assistive healthcare technology. His early career focused on advancing the field of legged robotics, most notably through the design and control of the WARP1, a 60-kilogram four-legged robot platform engineered for autonomous walking in rough terrain. Ingvast developed novel posture controllers based on simple force distribution, enabling stable standing and adaptive gait control—contributions that laid foundational groundwork for modern quadruped robots. His most impactful work, however, comes from a pivot to human-centered robotics.
