About
Jiaye Cai is a materials scientist and bioinspired engineer whose research focuses on developing advanced surfaces with tunable adhesion and self-cleaning properties. Cai’s most-cited work, "Photo-Detachable Self-Cleaning Surfaces Inspired by Gecko Toepads" (2021, 7 citations), draws inspiration from the remarkable climbing abilities of geckos—whose toe pads exhibit strong, reversible adhesion on diverse surfaces, regardless of hydrophobicity, roughness, or contamination.
