Jian Yuan’s research lies at the dynamic intersection of robotics, multi-agent systems, and human-robot interaction, with a particular focus on intelligent control and emotion-aware machines. His most influential work, “Application of Speech Emotion Recognition in Intelligent Household Robot” (51 citations), pioneered the integration of Hidden Markov Models (HMM) with Self-Organizing Feature Map Neural Networks (SOFMNN) to enable robots to recognize five distinct speech emotions—joy, grief, anger, fear, and surprise—paving the way for more empathetic domestic robots.
