About

Jen-Wei Wang is a pioneering researcher in bio-inspired robotics, with a particular focus on insect locomotion and manipulation. His most notable contributions center on the development of dung beetle robots, where he has drawn inspiration from one of nature’s strongest insects—dung beetles, capable of rolling objects up to 1,000 times their own body weight. In his 2017 and 2018 studies, Wang derived the equations for dung-rolling motion and successfully built a robot that emulates this behavior, achieving a total of 8 citations across these foundational works. Beyond insect-inspired locomotion, Wang has also advanced robot grasping in dense clutter through view-based experience transfer (2021, 4 citations), demonstrating his versatility in solving complex manipulation challenges. His work bridges biomechanics and robotics, offering novel solutions for heavy object transport and cluttered environment navigation. With a growing citation impact, Wang’s research not only deepens our understanding of biological systems but also paves the way for robust, nature-inspired robotic applications in agriculture, logistics, and search-and-rescue operations.
