Jean Paysant is a leading researcher in the field of advanced upper-limb prosthetics, with a focus on restoring natural, intuitive control for amputees. His work centers on two key challenges: enabling simultaneous control of multiple prosthetic joints and leveraging voluntary phantom limb movements to operate polydigital hands. In his 2022 study on simultaneous control of a 2DOF upper-limb prosthesis, Paysant introduced a novel body-compensations-based control strategy, demonstrating how amputees can coordinate multiple joints more naturally—a paper that has already garnered 20 citations for its practical impact.
