J. X. Prochaska is a leading astrophysicist whose research spans dark energy cosmology, gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), and robotic telescope automation. He was instrumental in the BigBOSS experiment (now DESI), a Stage IV ground-based dark energy survey designed to map baryon acoustic oscillations and cosmic structure growth across 14,000 square degrees—a project conditionally accepted by NOAO and foundational to modern cosmology. His work on GRB 080810 (56 citations) provided one of the first multiwavelength studies of a burst simultaneously detected by Swift and Fermi, mapping its broad-band spectral evolution from X-ray to optical bands.
