Itaru Matsumoto is a robotics researcher whose work bridges the foundational challenges of nonlinear control and practical autonomous navigation. He is best known for his contributions to the control of underactuated mechanical systems, most notably the Acrobot—a two-link robot that serves as a classic benchmark for nonlinear control strategies.
