About
Hyunhyub Ko is a leading materials scientist and engineer whose research sits at the intersection of flexible electronics, bioinspired materials, and wearable sensing technologies. Based at Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) in South Korea, Ko has pioneered the development of electronic skins (e-skins) that mimic the remarkable sensory capabilities of human skin. His landmark 2014 work on interlocked microdome arrays — which has garnered nearly 900 citations — demonstrated that bioinspired microstructures could achieve giant tunneling piezoresistance, enabling ultrasensitive, multimodal pressure detection. This breakthrough opened new pathways for applications in robotics, prosthetics, and healthcare monitoring. Ko's group has consistently advanced this vision, engineering hierarchical ZnO nanowire architectures, mechanochromic electronic skins, and MXene-enhanced ferroelectric composites for dynamic force sensing.
