About
Huayu Tong is a leading innovator in flexible electronics and wearable sensor technologies, with a core research focus on advanced nanocomposite materials for electronic skins (E-skins) and motion detection systems. Tong’s most influential work, the 2017 study on “Versatile Electronic Skins for Motion Detection of Joints,” has garnered 141 citations and represents a paradigm shift in the field. By introducing aligned few-walled carbon nanotubes (AFWCNTs) in flexible polymer composites, Tong pioneered a piezoresistive mechanism fundamentally distinct from the conventional “tunneling current channels” theory used in randomly dispersed CNT composites. This breakthrough enabled highly sensitive, durable, and multifunctional E-skins capable of precisely detecting human joint movements, opening new avenues for prosthetics, robotics, and health monitoring. Tong’s contributions have been widely recognized for bridging materials science and practical biomedical applications, establishing a foundation for next-generation wearable electronics. With a growing citation impact, Huayu Tong continues to shape the development of smart, flexible interfaces that seamlessly integrate with the human body.
