Hongqiu Wei is a materials scientist and engineer whose research sits at the intersection of smart materials, advanced manufacturing, and functional polymer composites. Best known for pioneering work in four-dimensional (4D) printing, Wei's 2016 paper on direct-write fabrication of shape-changing structures based on shape memory polymers (SMPs) has garnered nearly 500 citations, establishing foundational principles for structures that can be programmed to transform in both space and time. This breakthrough addressed critical limitations of conventional processing methods, opening new pathways for adaptive, stimulus-responsive devices.
