Hiroyasu Yamaguchi is a leading figure in supramolecular chemistry and smart materials, best known for pioneering photoresponsive artificial muscles. His groundbreaking 2012 work, cited over 720 times, introduced a novel actuator that expands and contracts under light by exploiting host–guest interactions between cyclodextrin and azobenzene.
