Francesca Barnaba is a leading atmospheric scientist whose research focuses on the complex interactions between desert dust aerosols, air quality, and climate. Her major contributions center on advancing high-resolution modeling and satellite retrieval techniques to better understand aerosol transport and its environmental impacts. Barnaba spearheaded the development of the MONARCH reanalysis system, a landmark high-resolution dataset that provides the first comprehensive, multi-year reconstruction of desert dust aerosol over Northern Africa, the Middle East, and Europe from 2007 to 2016.
