About
David L. Logsdon is a pioneering analytical and synthetic chemist whose research sits at the intersection of high-throughput experimentation (HTE), mass spectrometry, and organic synthesis optimization. His work has focused predominantly on developing and refining automated screening platforms that dramatically accelerate the discovery and optimization of chemical reactions, combining liquid handling robotics with desorption electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (DESI-MS) to enable the analysis of thousands of reactions per day. Logsdon's most influential contributions, all published in 2020 and collectively amassing over 140 citations, include the development of hardware and software infrastructure for DESI-MS-based screening systems and their application to diverse reaction classes, including reductive amination, nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SNAr), and aldol reactions of biorenewable feedstocks. Notably, his group evaluated over 3,000 unique SNAr reactions with an analysis time of just 3.5 seconds per reaction — a remarkable throughput achievement. His work bridging HTE with continuous flow synthesis further demonstrates a commitment to scalable, translatable chemistry. Logsdon's research is particularly valuable for pharmaceutical and green chemistry communities seeking rapid, data-rich approaches to reaction development.
