Christos Ampatzis is a pioneering researcher in swarm robotics, evolutionary computation, and autonomous multi-robot systems, whose work has significantly advanced our understanding of how robots can develop collective behaviors through artificial evolution. Best known for his contributions to the SWARM-BOTS project — a landmark European initiative exploring self-assembling robot colonies — Ampatzis helped lay the foundational groundwork for designing autonomous robots capable of transitioning seamlessly between individual and cooperative behavior.
