Chendong Zhao is a rising leader in the field of flexible electronics and nanomaterials, with a focus on developing next-generation stretchable sensors and electronic skins (e-skins). His research centers on engineering novel nanostructured materials—including sulfur-functionalized carbon nanotubes and ultrathin Mo₂S₃ nanowires—to create high-performance, breathable, and biocompatible devices. In his highly cited 2023 work on sulfur-containing carbon nanotubes with graphene nanoflaps, Zhao demonstrated a breakthrough approach to enhancing interfacial shear strength between CNTs and elastomers, enabling stretchable conductors with integrated sensing, Joule heating, and electro-thermal actuating capabilities.
