About
C. Delgorge is a pioneering researcher in the field of tele-echography, specializing in the development of robotic systems for remote medical ultrasound diagnosis. Their most significant contribution is the design and clinical validation of a tele-operated mobile ultrasound scanner using a lightweight robot, a breakthrough achieved as part of the European Mobile Tele-Echography Using an Ultralight Robot (OTELO) project. This work, which has garnered 120 citations, enables a medical expert in a hospital to perform real-time ultrasound examinations on a remote patient by controlling a six-degree-of-freedom robot that holds and moves the probe. Delgorge further advanced this field by clinically validating the OTELO system over ISDN lines (40 citations), proving its feasibility for remote diagnosis. To optimize image transmission in these robotic chains, they also conducted comparative evaluations of ultrasound image compression methods, including Fourier, wavelet, and fractal techniques. Delgorge’s research directly addresses the challenge of bringing specialist ultrasound care to underserved or distant populations, making a lasting impact on telemedicine and robotic-assisted healthcare.
