C. Bettenhausen is a prominent atmospheric scientist whose research has fundamentally advanced satellite-based aerosol remote sensing, contributing critical tools for monitoring air quality and understanding climate systems. Working primarily with NASA's satellite instrument suites, Bettenhausen has made landmark contributions to the development and validation of aerosol optical depth retrieval algorithms, particularly the "Deep Blue" methodology designed to measure aerosol properties over challenging bright-reflecting surfaces such as deserts and urban landscapes.
