About

Boyuan Yu is a rising researcher at the forefront of autonomous architecture and digital fabrication, whose work addresses critical challenges in sustainable construction and heritage preservation. His primary research areas include modular architectural design, computer-aided design (CAD) integration with robotics, and scalable automation for building restoration. Yu’s most notable contribution is the development of a voxel-based modular architectural design strategy (VMADS), which introduces reusable “H” blocks for component connections and construction—a pioneering approach toward autonomous, sustainable architecture that responds to resource shortages from rapid urbanization. This work has garnered early attention with 4 citations since its 2024 publication. In 2025, Yu advanced the field by proposing a scalable workflow integrating CAD and extended robotics for masonry restoration, specifically targeting historic and heritage buildings (HHBs). Validated on a historic screen wall in China, this research demonstrates unprecedented precision and efficiency in automated restoration techniques, earning its first citation. Yu’s innovative fusion of modular design and robotic automation positions him as a key contributor to the next generation of intelligent, sustainable building practices, with significant implications for both new construction and cultural heritage preservation.
