About

Bo Wei is a versatile robotics and autonomous systems researcher whose work spans space robotics, impedance control, and indoor localization. His most recognized contributions lie in advancing the autonomy and stability of robot astronauts operating in space station environments. His 2016 paper on adaptive impedance control tackled the formidable challenge of managing dynamic internal forces during dual-arm climbing maneuvers in microgravity conditions, garnering 11 citations and establishing him as a thoughtful contributor to human-robot collaboration in space. Complementing this, his work on variable spring balance position impedance control for complex docking structures further refined force-control methodologies critical to space operations. Wei also demonstrated breadth by addressing space robot perception, developing illumination and affine invariant feature extraction methods that improved the speed and accuracy of visual target recognition aboard space station cabins. More recently, his 2024 rWiFiSLAM system showcased a pivot toward terrestrial mobile robotics, proposing an effective WiFi ranging-based simultaneous localization and mapping solution for GPS-denied indoor environments. Collectively, Wei's research reflects a sustained commitment to enabling robots to operate reliably and intelligently across both space and Earth-based environments, making his work highly relevant for students pursuing service robotics and autonomous navigation.
