About
B. Gendre is an astronomer specializing in the rapid optical follow-up of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) and the exploration of the transient universe. His major contributions center on the development and use of robotic telescopes—notably TAROT and the Zadko Telescope—to capture the elusive prompt optical emission and early afterglows of GRBs. In a landmark 2006 paper (53 citations), he achieved the first continuous, time-resolved optical monitoring of a GRB during its prompt phase, a feat that opened a new window into understanding these explosive events. Gendre has also been instrumental in designing observational strategies for detecting optical counterparts to gravitational wave events from binary neutron star mergers (2011, 20 citations), work that proved prescient for the multi-messenger astronomy era.
